The Visitor Information and Thylacine Interpretive Centre is located within the Tasmanian Tiger Country Store. Check out the Tasmanian Tiger exhibits, including a wealth of local lore captured in newspaper articles collected over a period of many years about tiger sightings and encounters. You'll find books, CDs and DVDs about Thylacines, as well as interesting and unusual Tassie Tiger-themed gifts.
Make sure you call in for a chat with Trudy when you are in town for a warm Mole Creek welcome. Trudy will be happy to share her passion for the Thylacine with you - an interest which has kept her in active pursuit of this elusive creature for 30 years.
Most recent reported Thylacine sighting - July 2010
Whilst there's a wealth of newspaper accounts for you to read in the Centre, for every published account it's a fact that there are very many more sightings which go unpublished. Some people are unwilling to tell of their firm belief that they have had a first hand encounter with a Thylacine because of a fear they will not be believed or, worse, will be ridiculed. Others prefer to keep the information from the public arena to protect the Thylacine from unwanted attention.
One such incident was made known to Tassie Tiger Store operator Doug Westbrook very recently. On Sunday, 25th July 2010, whilst driving in an area to the north of Mole Creek, a Baptist Minister and his wife had to swerve to miss what they are adamant was a Thylacine crossing the road. This was about 6.30 pm and they report that in the headlights they could clearly see stripes on the coat of the animal, which the was the size of a medium-sized dog.
